29er

The 29er is just like a normal except the wheels are 29 inches instead of 26 inches , the whole bike its a bit bigger to fit the big wheels. They are better than 26 inch bikes in some ways the roll much better , stuff you would find bumpy or a bit rough would be smoother on the 29er . They are good for cross country because they cover more ground with less effort . They dont corner as well as 26 inch bikes , 26 inch bikes are more fun than 29ers . Not many people have them but its growing , becoming more popular. 29ers aren't being used in downhill because its harder to jump with them and theres alot or conering in downhill so the 26 inch bike is more suited to that.

Gravity Enduro

Gravity Enduro is a mix between Downhill and Cross country, there is 5 stages at the start of the stage there is post with electronic timer it records when you tag in and at the end of the stage you tag out so it records how long your run was . Inbetween stages there is a cycle to the next stage, it was a huge hit with people coming over from france , england and america . The first Gravity Enduro was held in Djouce Woods on the 7th and 8th of april. The next one is in Three Rock Mountain and it is on the 16th and 17th of june , i can tell that it is going to be a really good event..

In Ireland Mountain biking is very big and still growing , In Dublin there are many clubs for mountain biking such as Epic MTB , Team Worc , Mad Mtb . These are just three of the many clubs. There are many different places to go mountain biking some similar and some very different. There is Ticknock , there is two main tracks and many tracks all around the mountain as well . The tracks are made by Coillte , they also made a track in Ballinastoe . The tracks are quiet similar, but Ballinastoe is a longer track.

Also a good track is the leadmines near Kiltiernan, it is mixed with fire roads some open trails and forest trails as well , recently they are slippy and muddy because of the rain but should dry up soon. Djouce woods is about 3-4 miles down the road from ballinastoe , you could spend the whole day at Djouce there is so many different trails . There is alot to do there, there is technical trails and some easy enough ones as well you could do them on a hardtail or a fullsuspension bike .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqYgAX6D43Q Danny Hart's championship run to beat the leader by 11 seconds.
There is different types of mountainbiking like downhill , cross country , freeride ,all mountain.

Downhill is high speed , down a track with drops and big jumps. It can be technical with tight corners or difficult rocky sections witch are extremely challenging . The Downhill bike would have big travel around 200mm suspension

This is the current downhill world champions bike , Danny Hart who beat the french rider Damien  Spagnolo by 11 seconds . Usually you would get 2 or 3 seconds on the leader but he got 11, wich shows how good he is.

Cross country is generally a slower but longer race of a circuit track and is a few laps.It requires more fitness than downhill and other types of mountainbiking . The bikes are different aswell they are hardtails , they dont have any back suspension and the front suspension has about 90-120mm travel . They are lighter and have more gears .

Freeride is like downhill but its not timed and there isn't really any freeride events. Theres not stages on a freeride track , it has more of a flow to it , unlike some downhill races. The bike does not have as much travel as the downhill bike and would be a bit lighter with more gears.

All mountain is in between downhill  and cross country , the bike generally is full suspension you can do most of the stuff you could do with a cross country bike but you can do rough stuff as well . They would have the same amount of gears as a cross country bike but more travel.
